Oscar winner Christopher Nolan will soon become Sir Christopher Nolan. Nolan, along with his producer and wife Emma Thomas, will receive the honor during a ceremony on an undisclosed date.
Nolan and Thomas have been mainstays and icons in film and media for a long time. Nolan, fresh off his best director Oscar win for Oppenheimer, had been previously nominated most recently for Dunkirk, but also for hits such as Memento and Inception. His films are also not shy of accolades as well, as his many films have collected awards for best actor and supporting actor most recently with Cillian Murphy and Ronbert Downey Jr’s recent performances in Oppenheimer. But also awards for cinematography, score, screenwriting, and other acting have gone to his films.
Thomas herself is also coming off Oscar success for her best picture winner, Oppenheimer. The pair met in College and created film production company Syncopy together before marrying. Thomas and the couple’s company have collaborated on most of Nolan’s films.
An important note of the announcement is the relative surprise and rarity of this. Knighthood and damehood ceremonies occur during New Years or the King’s birthdays. Other occasions occur during achievements in sports, so Thomas and Nolan’s accomplishments have clearly been taken note of.
After the success of Oppenheimer and Nolan’s genius contracting of the film, Warner Brothers are rumored to be trying to seduce the acclaimed director back to their studio. While his new contract and films are yet to be heard of as of now, what’s clear is that the couple will certainly go down in history.
