Christmas is right around the corner and Robert Morris will produce “Elf the Musical” Thursday through Sunday. Every show will be at 7:30 pm except Sunday at 2pm at the Massey Theater.
“Elf” is about the story of Buddy the elf, who was transported as a toddler to the North Pole and raised there. Buddy goes back to New York and searches for his biological dad, Walter Hobbs. There is much chaos in Buddy and Walter’s relationship.
Buddy has to save Christmas by finding the engine for Santa’s sleigh to make it fly. Santa’s sleigh was unable to fly due to not enough Christmas spirit. Jovie sings “Santa Claus is coming to town” to help raise Christmas spirit to make the sleigh fly.
Freshman Hayden Krupp will star as Buddy in the musical.
“It means a lot, I’ve never been trusted with a role like this and for Brent to grant me this opportunity,” said Krupp, when asked what this opportunity meant to him. “It is absolutely amazing, and the cast has been so supportive and just welcoming.”
Hayden was in a bit of shock when he was picked to play Buddy. “I was originally gunning for either Walter Hobbs or Santa, and so I got the email offered me the role of Buddy in the middle of my 10 a.m. class and I just sat there literally dropped my phone out of my hands.”
Senior Addy Hildebrand, who will star as Jovie in “Elf,” talked about how the show and cast have come together. “I think the show has actually come together very well. This is actually one of the longest time periods we’ve had to do a show at RMU and I think it’s really shown and really helped. I think everybody is very prepared and very excited.”
Come watch RMU students take the stage this weekend to perform a holiday classic!
