The future looks bright for movie fans, especially if you are a fan of the music and biopic genre, as Sony Pictures announced on the 20th that a series of four Beatles films will be released all in 2027.
Each of the films will cover each member respectively and intertwine with one another. British filmmaker Sam Mendes, director of hits like 1917, American Beauty, Skyfall, and Spector, will get the honor and task of making the films.
This follows the recent craze and heightened taste in the biographical, music genre over the last few years. Films like Bohemian Rhapsody and Elvis have taken home Oscars for Best Actor and succeeded at the box office. Recently it was also announced that Michael Jackson would be getting his own biopic covering the king of pop’s life, so this should be no surprise.
What is surprising is this is the first time the band’s likeness has been allowed to be used by such a high-profile studio, with remaining members Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr as well as the estates of John Lennon and George Harrison all signing off, giving the green light to Sony.
This innovative approach to release will surely excite and reignite interest in “Beatlemania”, no additional information regarding casting and involvement has been released at this time.
