Modern dance pioneer and Pennsylvania native Martha Graham once stated: “Dance is the hidden language of the soul.” This statement could not be truer – the amazingly talented dancers from Exhalations Dance Theatre epitomized this quote during last Sunday’s showcase.
Held at the New Hazlett Theatre, the venue was the perfect place for this event with no frills or limited seating and an unobstructed view anywhere you sat. With unparalleled agility, stamina and expression, these dancers left their hearts out on the floor, giving the audience an intimate experience they will not forget anytime soon.
Founded in 2009, Exhalations Dance Theatre is a group of student dancers, choreographers, and alumni from Duquesne University that come together to celebrate and embrace all areas of dance. This year’s theme, “The Choreography Project,” set out to focus on the art of dance and to offer a new take on the human body in motion. Demonstrating movement and dance routines with skills beyond their years, Pittsburgh had better take note of these fantastic students who are going to take the dance world by storm.
