On Thursday, the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) and Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) hosted a presentation with speakers from FedEx in the John Jay Center.
The two speakers, Olivia and Lauren, both recent RMU graduates (2021 and 2020 respectively), discussed some of the aspects of their jobs at FedEx and what they see on a daily basis. Some included cost analysis and analyzing data.
They stressed having some prior information on are coding, query building, data polls, and a general knowledge of PowerPoint and Excel.
They also spoke on how Fedex accommodates to the work-life balance of their employees and the flexible company environment. The two speakers come in three days a week and work from home the other two.
They continued by saying younger employees don’t need to worry about their lack of experience as a detriment when applying. There is a decent amount of young employees there. It allows for less worry when joining the company and being a part of the team.
“You could be the most perfect fit for a position, but you never know unless you apply,” said Lauren. “It shows your willingness to learn.”
The two finished the discussion by answering student questions and talking about resume building.
“If you talk about projects or clubs that you’re in, that is just as good as the experience in the field that is ‘required’ by other companies,” said Olivia. “It helps them understand who you are.”
