RMU falls to PSU

After a 5-1 Friday night against Slippery Rock the RMU ACHA DI hockey team traveled to State College to take on the DII Penn State Ice Lions at the Pegula Ice Arena.

The Lions came out with a roar and scored just 41 seconds into the period. The Colonials would receive four powerplay opportunities in the period, including a 5-on-3 for 1:24 but came up empty handed on each one.

PSU continued to dominate during the second period. Scoring another three goals during the 20 minutes, two of which came during a five minute penalty assigned to RMU’s Justin Rehrer. Rehrer laid a clean hit on Penn State player at the 11 minute marker, but was given a game misconduct with his five minute major. Mason Kurger would find himself in the box at 6:57 giving the Ice Lions a 5-on-3 for 58 seconds. Two minutes later the Colonials would find themselves back on the PK when Travis Reese heading to the box, they would successfully kill the penalty with 2:43 left.

The final frame would start with the Colonials on the powerplay but the group came up empty handed. PSU would add another two goals before starting goaltender Joakim Asen would be pulled from net and replaced with Alex Blum, with about nine minutes remaining.The Colonials would also go down another forward when Travis Reece with 7:39 remaining. Zach Michels came up with the lone Colonial goal preventing the shutout. With 60 minutes in the books RMU fell to PSU 7-1.
