In our everyday lives, we all know and see romantic couples around us. Even taking into account the couples we see in movies, television shows, magazines, and books. It feels almost impossible to escape the aspect of love. For this writer, reading about love was far more enjoyable than believing that maybe one day love would find me. It was easy to take the mindset that maybe love was not in my cards or that love was just overrated. I have since had a perspective change. Call it a change of scenery or a biased opinion but love is for everyone.
Now saying this, heartbreak could happen and who knows this article could become one that is looked back on with the thought of why the heck did I write that but what if it was just part of something bigger or scratch that it is a chapter in my book? However the outcome goes my opinion still stays. Love could happen at any given moment. Love is in our everyday lives whether we want it there or not. Life is all what you make it. Although this may be focused on romantic love it does not change the fact that love for animals, friends, or family, is still madly important to humans. According to Psychology Today “We know that the desire to love and care for others is hard-wired and deep-seated because the fulfillment of this desire enhances our happiness levels. Expressing love or compassion for others benefits not just the recipient of affection, but also the person who delivers it.” Ultimately, it states that love is just as important as exercise or making sure you take care of yourself. The connections we make with others, whether romantic or not, fuel a deeper sense of purpose and belonging.
When we experience love, even in its simplest forms like sharing a laugh with a friend or the warmth of a pet curled up next to us, we are reminded of our humanity… our need to be seen, heard, and valued. And of course, romantic love is often glorified and put on a pedestal, love is needed. It’s not just about grand gestures or perfect moments sometimes it’s about being present, showing up, and caring for others every day. This simple act of giving love allows us to experience it in return, whether through a partner, family, or friends. The truth is, love is messy, complicated, and imperfect and that’s what makes it real. The ups and downs, the openness, and even the heartbreak are what gives love its depth. They make the moments of true connection all the more meaningful.
So, maybe love isn’t some grand, unattainable force that only a few are lucky enough to experience. Maybe it’s already there, in the small moments of our everyday lives, waiting to be noticed and nurtured. Whether romantic or platonic, love isn’t something we need to chase. It’s something we can capture, simply by being open to it. As I continue to learn and grow, I’ve realized that love is not about finding someone to “complete” you, but rather about sharing your wholeness with another person. It’s about allowing love to enhance your life, not define it. And, ultimately, it’s a reminder that we are all deserving of love, no matter where we find ourselves on the journey. Who knows where my own story with love will lead? But one thing is for certain love, in all its forms, is something worth believing in.
