The long-awaited cast for the upcoming Marvel Fantastic Four film was announced last week. In a retro-styled Valentine’s Day card, Marvel put the names to paper about who’d be taking the roles of Marvel’s first family.
Mandalorian and Last of Us star, Pedro Pascal, is set to don the role of Reed Richards, patriarch of the family. His wife, Sue Storm, is set to be played by Napoleon actress, Vanessa Kirby. Stranger Things star, Joseph Quinn, will be the Human Torch/Johnny Storm. And rounding out the cast, the Thing will be a star from The Bear, Ebon Moss-Bachrach.
The foursome was announced to return after John Krasinski’s appearance as Reed Richards in Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness. It was the first time a live-action member was seen since the critical and box office flop that was 2015’s Fantastic Four. Miles Teller, Michael B. Jordan, Jamie Bell, and Kate Mara took the roles for 20th Century Studios before Disney and Marvel took the rights back.
Before that, two movies were made about the superhero family in the early 2000s. Fantastic Four and its sequel, Rise of the Silver Surfer, were released in 2005 and 2007. the films were seen as decent, but not enough to build off of. Thus Human Torch actor Chris Evans went on to star for Marvel as Captain America.
The film is slated to release in a jam-packed 2025. A notable competitor will be James Gunn and DC’s cinematic reboot of Superman with Superman Legacy, scheduled to release at a similar time. A big box office matchup against two of the biggest franchises in the superhero genre.
