As the first month of the year comes to a close I decided to rank 10 movies I’m looking forward to seeing this year.
10. Spiderman Beyond the Spider-verse
Unfortunately, right now, it doesn’t seem that we will get a conclusion as to how Miles gets back to his universe and saves his dad this year. As of now, the movie is set to hit theaters in March, but due to the strikes, I believe it will come out next year. If it somehow beats the odds and comes out this year, it makes this list. The first two have been beautifully made and are masterpieces. The original cast is supposed to come back for the end. With a lot of hype and members returning, Spider-Verse seems to be a movie worth seeing whenever it is released.
9. Joker: Folie à Deux
Nothing is known about where this movie is going. Some have reported it to be a musical. Whatever it is, it’s going to be big, it’s going to blow your mind, and I can’t wait to see what happens. It stars Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga. This mysterious movie hits theaters in October.
8. Bob Marley One Love
Bob Marley has such an interesting story and view of the world. The story will follow his rise to fame, and how he made an impact on the world. It’s going to be an interesting watch, the songs will be amazing. Kingsley Ben-Adir will be playing Marley, and he has massive shoes to fill. This is going to be a fun ride, and one to see.
7. Dune Part Two
Dune Part 2 is a highly anticipated follow-up to the blockbuster released in 2021. Paul Atreides unites with Chani and the Fremen while seeking revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family. With stars like Austin Butler, Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, and Florence Pugh, and the great visual effects expected for this movie, it’s certainly one to check out.
6. Arthur the King
An adventure racer adopts a stray dog named Arthur to join him in an epic endurance race. Mark Wahlberg stars in this movie that sounds like a great feel-good story. Simu Liu will also be in this one as well. This one sounds like it will be grand, a fun story, and with a lot of heart and I think it’s something that we can all look forward to. I put it this high for a few reasons: Wahlberg can carry any movie he is in, and I’m curious to see what they do with the dog.
5. Civil War
This will either be one amazing ride, or it’s going to be a pandering mess that will tell you who to vote for in an election year. Soon, a team of journalists travels across the United States during a rapidly escalating civil war that has engulfed the entire nation. The movie stars Kirsten Dunst, and I’m hoping they lean into the journalists’ role in the movie as well. It’s set to hit theaters in April, and with many questions going in, I’ll be keeping a positive view of it.
4. Kung Fu Panda 4
Normally, I would never include a fourth movie in this list, but Panda is different. After Po is tapped to become the Spiritual Leader of the Valley of Peace, he needs to find and train a new Dragon Warrior, while a wicked sorceress plans to re-summon all the master villains whom Po has vanquished to the spirit realm. Jack Black is one of the greatest voice actors ever, and I can’t wait to see what they do with this and maybe put this series to rest in March.
3. The Fall Guy
A movie all about making movies, what’s not to love? Colt Seavers is a stuntman who left the business a year earlier to focus on both his physical and mental health. He’s drafted back into service when the star of a mega-budget studio movie, which is being directed by his ex, goes missing. Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt star in this movie. The effects look great, and I think it’s such a great idea for a film that also will address Mental Health. I am here for it. It will come out in May.
2. I.F.
This movie is going to have heart, an all-star cast, and is even written by John Krasinski! A young girl who goes through a difficult experience begins to see everyone’s imaginary friends who have been left behind as their real-life friends have grown up. From the trailers, it looks beautiful and is going to be so fun to see. Ryan Reynolds, Krasinski, Steve Carell, Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Vince Vaughn, and Sam Rockwell all will be lending their voices as well.
1. Deadpool 3
Marvel brings the X-Men into the MCU! Wolverine joins the “merc with a mouth” in the third installment of the Deadpool film franchise. Not much is known going into this film, even though people are trying to get leaks out. Reynolds is back with Hugh Jackman. The first two are some funny rides. It’s going to be fun, it’s going to have laughs, and it’s going to make fun of the current aspects of superhero movies. It’s the perfect summer blockbuster in July.
