Legendary British rock band Oasis is set to perform a series of stadium shows across Great Britain in Summer 2025, their first shows since a nasty blowout between brothers and lead members Liam and Noel Gallagher.
Formed in 1991 in Manchester, England, Oasis originally consisted of Liam Gallagher as vocals, Paul Arthurs on guitar, Paul McGuigan on bass, and Tony McCarroll on drums, with Liam’s brother Noel joining later as backup vocals and lead guitar. Together they would release their first album, 1994’s “Definitely Maybe”, to great critical and financial success. Overall, Oasis has recorded 7 studio albums, including the 14-time-platinum album “(What’s the Story) Morning Glory?”, which includes several hit songs such as “Don’t Look Back in Anger”, “Champagne Supernova”, and the bane of guitar store owners everywhere: “Wonderwall”
For many years, Oasis performed at concerts and music festivals all over the world, but they were always the most popular in their home country, the UK. In fact, they formed a rivalry with fellow British pop-rock band Blur. The two bands competed financially and critically, with Blur usually making more money and Oasis being more critically successful.
These good times would continue into the 21st century, but behind the scenes, a feud between Liam and Noel was becoming harder to ignore. There had always been bickering between the two brothers. In 1994 before the band’s first North American tour, Noel briefly left Oasis after a massive fight between band members while many of them were high on crystal meth, and he left again in 2000 after a fight arose when Liam questioned if Noel was the biological father of the daughter Noel had with his ex-wife. It all culminated in a fight between the Gallaghers in 2009 backstage at the Rock en Seine Festival in Paris before Oasis was supposed to perform, where Noel officially quit, stating “I simply could not go on working with Liam any longer”.
Liam continued with the members of Oasis under the name Beady Eye, who disbanded in 2014.
There has been little contact between the brothers since Noel left Oasis, but there have been jabs on social media and in the media between the two. Notably, in 2016, Liam tweeted a picture of Noel with the caption “potato”. When asked in an interview about it, Liam stated that he did this because “he looks like one”.
The brothers have also had solo careers, none as influential or popular as Oasis, but every once in a while one of the brothers would sing one of their band’s old songs.
There has been speculation of an Oasis reunion for many years now, with the brothers both stating they’d be in favor of getting the band back together. However, the hatred between Liam and Noel always got in the way. In 2018, Liam tweeted at Noel trying to get “the big O” back together, but when Noel didn’t respond, Liam tweeted: “I guess I’ll take that as a NO then”.
This brings us to Aug. 26, 2024, where Liam, Noel, and the official Oasis social media accounts posted the date “27.8.2024” with the statement: “The guns have fallen silent./The stars have aligned./The great wait is over./Come see./It will not be televised”
Sure enough, on Aug. 27, Oasis announced a series of shows across Great Britain for Summer 2025, the first time that the brothers will perform together as Oasis since 2009. Tickets will go on pre-sale Aug. 30, and fully on sale Aug. 31.
