When it comes to selecting a location to retire, you want to make sure it perfectly fits your wants and needs. On November 7th, U.S. Real Estate News released its 2024 list of the top 150 places to retire in. Pennsylvania took the list by storm and secured seven spots in the top 10 along with completely taking over the top five.
The top three locations for retirement (from rank 1 to 3) are Harrisburg, PA with a 7.1, Reading, PA with a 7.0, and Lancaster, PA with a 7.0. The ranking for these locations was based on a list of categories determined by a public survey of people approaching the age of retirement (45 years or older).
Participants in the survey were asked many questions to figure out what matters most when looking to retire. Statistics from the questionnaire were obtained from multiple sources including Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Sharecare’s Community Well-Being Index, and FBI’s Uniform Crime Reports.
Their categories for retirement focus mainly on housing affordability, tax rates, weather, and healthcare quality. Some other smaller categories in the equation are the unemployment rate, the happiness of local residents, and the crime rate.
