A suspect is in custody after a 44-year-old off-duty Liquor Control Enforcement officer was found fatally stabbed on the Montour Trail in Moon Township Monday afternoon.
Police officers were called to the 1900 block of Hassam Road around 3 p.m. for reports of an injured man. First responders arrived and found the man with stab wounds. The man was later taken to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
According to Alleghany County court records, 25-year-old Anthony Quesen is being charged with criminal homicide in connection to the death of a Coraopolis man, Benjamin Brailler.
In a statement obtained by KDKA, Col. Christopher Paris of Pennsylvania State Police said “The Pennsylvania State Police is heartbroken to confirm the tragic loss of one of our own, dedicated Liquor Enforcement Officer Benjamin Brallier, who was fatally stabbed while off-duty yesterday. With over 20 years of service, he was an exemplary officer and a devoted father and husband,”
Investigators found a yellow bicycle and a bag belonging to the suspect at the scene of the crime.
This is not the first time Quesen has been in trouble with the law. Last year Quesen was arrested for mugging a person at Point State Park in June 2023.
Quesen is now being held at the Alleghany County Jail with no bond set.
“We are deeply saddened to learn of the death of Mr. Benjamin Brallier while he was on the Montour Trail Monday. We send our deepest condolences to his family, friends and colleagues.” Said the Montour Trail Council in a statement
This is the third time in a year that there has been a safety issue on the Montour trail.
The Trail Council also stated “While we recognize the seriousness of what has occurred, we want to assure our trail-users and the public that we believe the Montour Trail is a safe and welcoming community space. The safety and well-being of our trail-users has always been of paramount concern for the Montour Trail Council.
