Beaver Grade Road will be closed for an extended period of time as Moon Township will look to move and repair the road as landslides have damaged the surrounding areas. So far, nearly five thousand tons of rocks have been brought to the site to stabilize the road.
Over the next two weeks, crews will be out there, weather permitting, to cover the road with five thousand tons of rocks to stabilize the slide area. Once complete, they will install vertical steel piles through the rock into the bedrock below the roadway elevation.
This will help install the giant rock into the roadway at the bottom of the slope on Beaver Grade Road. The steel pipework will take several weeks to complete, and it will cause a long-term road closure.
Then, after the rock is installed, the road will need to be moved over a couple of feet to go around the large rock. This move will allow the road to avoid further damage from rock slides and allow for safer travel.
A detour has been created, and they are as follows: if you are traveling south of the closure, from Montour Run Road, turn onto Hookstown Grade Road, turn right onto Ewing Road, follow Ewing Road to Beaver Grade Road, and that is the end of the detour.
If you are traveling north to the detour, it’s the same one in the opposite direction. This project will start in the coming weeks and end mid to late summer. For updates on the road closure, you can visit 511 PA’s website to get updates.
