The body of a missing woman last seen in February was found under the Westinghouse Bridge in North Versailles Monday evening.
Officials in Allegheny County have confirmed to Pittsburgh’s Action News 4 that first responders had found a woman’s body underneath the Westinghouse Bridge before 6 p.m.
The woman was later identified by the Allegheny County Medical Examiner as 39-year-old Maria Kraus.
Last month first responders were on scene along the bridge following the search for Kraus. She was reported missing on Feb. 10 just after 8:45 a.m.
Kraus’s brother took to Facebook, saying, in part:
“As many of you may have heard, there was significant activity in the area where my sister Maria went missing,” brother Justin Kraus said. “Unfortunately, I have to share this, but I want my friends and family to hear it from a reliable source rather than through misguided social media posts.”
The post continued saying, “Maria was fighting demons that we were unaware of, and now she has found peace. This is heartbreaking and not the outcome anyone hoped for. However, we can now bring Maria home and give her the memorial she deserves.”
No additional information has been released at this time. Officers are still investigating.
