Students were rudely awoken on Friday when the team bus that belonged to the Penn State Men’s Basketball team got stuck on Colonial Way in front of the Colonial Village. The bus, which was empty at the time, was looking to leave campus after dropping off the team at the UPMC Events Center. After making its way through campus, it eventually got stuck when trying to turn around.
The bus became wedged around 9:00 a.m. Campus police were blocking the road just after Madison Hall. It took the crew of police and tow trucks around two hours to get the bus moving again, and it was free at around 11:00 a.m.
It is easy to question how something like this could happen, but to someone unfamiliar with the campus, trying to get back to the exit could be a challenge. The roads around campus are tight and narrow, and it is easy to get lost and stuck trying to leave.
Problems like this could possibly be avoided if the roads of Colonial Way, Campus Drive, and Pennsylvania Avenue were connected together. The roads come close to meeting near Massey, but alas are not connected.
In having wider roads, incidents like this could be avoided in the future.
