The IBEW is a union representing Duquesne Light Company and the union staged a vote Tuesday night to authorize a strike. Once the employee contract ends for employees who are a part of the IBEW, the 711-14 vote will authorize a strike for the Duquesne Light company.
Even though they voted for a strike, a walkout will not immediately happen. According to Duquesne Light Company, a strike is expected as soon as Saturday if no deal is completed, but the two parties will continue to negotiate a new contract. Still, the company does have a continuity plan just in case an agreement is reached after Saturday the 30th.
In 2019, the DLC threatened to walk out, but a strike was averted because a 4-year deal was made, which is set to expire at the end of the month. Currently, there is no information on any of the terms being negotiated because neither side has disclosed the terms.
The utility company services around 600,000 people in Beaver and Allegheny counties and a part of Pittsburgh. These regional strikes may impact people and their power.
