Firefighters from surrounding departments responded to a call of a fire in an elevator shaft at Robert Morris University, late Wednesday afternoon around 3:40 PM.
An elevator motor overheated and eventually burned up according to Moon Township Fire Chief John Scott.
The building was evacuated, and the fire crews put the fire out promptly. There was no threat to any parts of the building; it was contained to the elevator shaft.
Students and staff were given the all-clear to re-enter the building at approximately 4:13 P.M.
“Yes, they’re able to head back in now” Said Fire Chief Scott when asked if students could re-enter the building and resume classes.
This story is still ongoing, details will be added when they are available.
Colonial Central informed all staff, faculty, and students that the elevator will remain closed until further notice.
