After several years of small attacks from both sides of the Israel and Palestinian conflict, war has officiality been declared by the Israeli government. This comes after an unprecedented attack from Hamas, a Palestinian Sunni-Islamic fundamentalist military group that has been active inside Palestine since the beginning days of the state.

The Hamas military has begun pushing into Israel proper from their territory in the Gaza Strip. The invasion has already become one of the deadliest in Israeli history. In a little over 24 hours, casualties are over 900 dead and about 2,000 people injured with the toll rising every minute.

Israel is currently responding to the attacks with airstrikes against Gaza with at least 370 Palestinians dead. Israel continues to mobilize for an offense since the official declaration of war.

As the Middle East descends into war, the United Nations Security Council is set to hold a closed-door meeting about the conflict later today at 3 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.
