Karma Kommunications brings Alex’s Lemonade Stand to RMU
On Wednesday, Nov. 20, Karma Kommunications will be host Alex’s Lemonade Stand at Robert Morris University in the cafeteria from 8p.m.-11p.m. All benefits will go to the ongoing fight against childhood cancer. The founder of Alex’s Lemonade Stand is Alexandra “Alex” Scott.
Alex was diagnosed with a type of childhood cancer called Neuroblastoma when she was one year old. While in the hospital, she told her mother she wanted to have a lemonade stand to help all children be cured. That same year, Alex held her first lemonade stand with the help of her brother. They raised an incredible amount of 2,000 dollars for the hospital where she was treated. Alex passed away at the age of eight in 2004, but her story and impact still lives on.
Many people in the community were inspired by this amazing girl and her goal and decided to get involved. Alex’s Lemonade Stand has become a national fundraising foundation and it all started in her front yard. Today, it has raised over 60 million dollars for finding a cure and funds 300 research projects nationwide.
Karma Kommunications is founded by a group of young professionals whose name came through their mission, which states, “We want to distribute good karma to non-profit organizations and the individuals who help support these organizations”. All of the members are from Pennsylvania and started their organization from a class project.
Karma Kommunications is a sponsoring a Lip-Sync for Cancer contest to help raise money for Alex’s Lemonade Stand. It will be two dollars to attend and any money after that towards drink tickets will go to the foundation. There will be free pizza for those who attend and lemons will be for sale at the door to be donated to ALSF.
“This event means a lot to us because once this is all done, we should be able to donate enough money to fund 3.5 hours of childhood cancer research,” said Shanice Cook, a member of Karma Kommunications.
Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation also holds various fundraising events throughout the year. For more information on how you can get involved and Alex’s story visit: www.alexslemonade.org
