Mars, Bethel Park schools closed due to threats

MOON TOWNSHIP — Two area school districts have canceled classes Friday after receiving threats of violence.
The Mars Area School District canceled classes after they say a rumor of possible violence was brought to the attention of administrators and police.
As a precautionary measure, Mars Area School District will be closed tomorrow, October 19. “While Adams Township Police Department has yet to substantiate these rumors and is continuing its investigation, the District is closing its schools on Friday, Oct. 19, out of an abundance of caution,” said the school district in a statement on their website.
Bethel Park School District also canceled classes for Friday after they received an anonymous threat of violence.
Due to an anonymous threat of violence against the Bethel Park School District, all BPSD schools will be closed to students and staff on Friday, October 19, 2018.

Both the Bethel Park Police Department and the Adams Township Police Departments are investigating the threats.
It is unclear at this time if the threats are related.
