Police in England have arrested Matt Petgrave, and he has been charged with manslaughter in the death of the American hockey player, Adam Johnson. The former Pittsburgh Penguin had his neck cut by a skate in a freak accident on the ice in Sheffield, England.
Johnson passed away on October 28th, during the game against the Sheffield Steelers. Johnson played for the Nottingham Panthers until he was struck by his opponent’s skates at Utilia Arena.
Petgrave was arrested, and he remains in police custody as of right now. He has been charged with manslaughter.
Adam Johnson’s death has sent shockwaves through the hockey community and has resulted in the EIHA making neckguards mandatory. The National Hockey League has not decided on neck guards, but some players have started to wear them since the incident.
