As of Wednesday, March 6th, Nikki Haley has suspended her campaign for the 2024 Presidential election. This decision came after Super Tuesday, where 15 states held primary elections. After substantial losses, Haley announced that it was time to end her campaign.
The ending of Haley’s campaign leaves candidate Donald J. Trump as the last major candidate for the Republican party. Haley suggested in her public speech in Charleston, South Carolina that she will continue advocating for her values. “I said I wanted Americans to have their voice. I have done that, I have no regrets. And although I will no longer be a candidate, I will not stop using my voice for the things I believe.”
With this announcement, Haley did not outwardly endorse Donald Trump. This comes as no surprise, as much of Haley’s campaign was based directly against Trump, focusing on Republican voters who were against him. Within her speech, Haley continually wished Trump well, pointing toward inclusivity as the election, and Trump’s campaign, move forward.
“It is now up to Donald Trump to earn the votes of those in our party and beyond it, who did not support it, and I hope he does that. At its best, politics is about bringing people into your cause, not turning them away. And our conservative cause badly needs more people.”
Nikki Haley was the first woman to win a Republican primary and could have become the first female president. As it stands now, the 2024 Presidential election is set to be Donald Trump against Joe Biden, the same election as in 2020.
