Pope Francis has been hospitalized for about a week with double pneumonia. Since being admitted to the hospital, he faced additional respiratory and kidney issues.
On Monday, the Vatican stated that “the night went well, the Pope slept and is resting.”
The Pope was admitted to Rome’s Gemelli hospital on Feb. 14, after having trouble breathing for a few days. At first, he was treated for bronchitis, but it later developed into double pneumonia.
It was noted that, as of Monday, the Pope is in good spirits and has been eating and drinking normally. The Vatican has not given a definitive prognosis, due to the “complexity of the clinical picture.”
Although facing medical ailments, the Pope has returned to work on Monday afternoon. Pope Francis called the Parish Priest of the Parish of Gaza. Pope Francis has remained in close contact and regularly checks in since the beginning of the conflict in Gaza.
The Pope continues to be lifted in prayer, as faith leaders and worshippers have gathered to pray for his health and a quick recovery. Pope Francis’s cousin, Carla Rabezzana, has spoken to the Italian outlet RAI and stated, “We are all worried sick. We hope he will recover quickly and get over this bad moment. I follow everything from the news, I am very agitated.”
Pope Francis is still currently undergoing treatment and there have been no more updates on the status of his health thus far.
