Robert Morris Public Safety said in an email to students on Thursday that they are investigating a reported sexual assault in a wooded area either on or adjacent to campus.
The incident occurred in the late afternoon to early evening hours on Wednesday. According to the email, the victim was a student at the university.
While the investigation is ongoing, Robert Morris and Moon Township police have increased patrols on campus.
The university reported the incident in accordance with the Clery Act.
The University responded to RMU Sentry Media’s request for comment. Brian Edwards, the public relations director at RMU, said “There is an active ongoing investigation by our police department and local authorities. Campus Police and Moon Township Police have increased patrols on campus. If you see something, feel unsafe, or have any information that may be helpful to the investigation, please contact Campus Police at 412-397-2424.”
Jeff James asked the students to follow personal safety tips including trusting their instincts and being aware of their surroundings. He added that the safety of the campus is his highest priority, and the counseling center is available for any additional support a student may need.
