Super Bowl-winning running back Reggie Bush was finally given back his Heisman Trophy after he relinquished it in 2010. The NCAA deemed that Bush received benefits of several thousand dollars and a vehicle in 2004, which at the time was not allowed, so Bush was not eligible.
With Bush being ruled ineligible for the 2004 season, Bush had to give up the trophy that he won after posting a season of 1740 rushing yards on 200 carries and scoring 18 total touchdowns.
However, the conversation to give Bush his Heisman back was brought upon by today’s game, as now, athletes are a part of the new Name, Image, Likeness (NIL) policy for the NCAA, where athletes can make money while playing the sport of their choosing.
With this, there was a large conversation around whether Reggie Bush should get his Heisman Trophy back. Former Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel got the message out about two years ago, and finally, today, Reggie Bush will get his trophy.
With this news today, not only will Reggie Bush receive his Heisman Trophy, but the school he played football at, USC, will also now receive a replica version of the trophy so it can be displayed as part of the program’s history.
After USC, Reggie Bush went on to have an illustrious career, playing for the New Orleans Saints, Miami Dolphins, Detroit Lions, San Francisco 29ers, and the Buffalo Bills. He rushed for 5,490 yards and 36 touchdowns and passed for 477 yards and 18 touchdowns in 134 regular-season games. He helped the Saints win their first-ever Super Bowl.
As we know, the Heisman trophy winners are always in a commercial every year, and now, with Reggie Bush getting his Heisman back, the former USC running back can be a part of some of the most lavish commercials on TV, the Heisman House.
