On Oct. 4, Robert Morris University will be holding the 2011 Career Expo in the Sewall Center Arena. Over 60 employers are expected to attend the event, which is celebrating its 15th anniversary. From 12:30 – 4:30 p.m., the Expo will be open only to RMU students and alumni.
“The RMU Career Center will host one of the largest career expos in the Pittsburgh area, attracting local and regional employers in various disciplines,” said Kishma DeCastro-Sallis, director of the Career Center. “We are expecting dozens of recruiters from for and non-profit organizations.”
DeCastro-Sallis explained that the companies and organizations present will be seeking students in every major for opportunities, such as internships and full-time positions.
As of Sept. 12, some of the employers planning to attend include: PNC Financial Services Group, UPMC, Del Monte Foods, Farmers Insurance Group and Aflac.
“The Career Expo provides the perfect opportunity for students to highlight and showcase their professional skills to these area employers,” DeCastro-Sallis said.
According to the Career Center’s 2011 Career Expo Web page, those planning to attend should bring plenty of resumes and be advised that professional dress is required. Free registration will take place at the door on the day of the event.
Sophomore Kevin Doan attended last year’s Career Expo at RMU and really enjoyed the experience.
“There was a lot of information from tons of businesses,” Doan said. “The Expo allows you take a good look into your adult life.”
Also on their website, the Career Center offers ways for students to prepare for the event. For example, they offer tips on creating a proficient resume and information on review sessions for individuals wishing to solidify their existing one.
A complete list of employers making an appearance at the RMU Career Expo can be found by logging into ColonialTRAK on the RMU website.
