MOON TOWNSHIP – As Winter Storm Harper makes its way across the country, the Facilities Management team at Robert Morris University says they are prepared to keep the campus safe.
RMU’s Department of Facilities Management sent an email to all students, faculty and staff with their plans to prioritize highly traveled areas before tackling less trafficked areas. In an email, the department talks about which areas they plan to highlight.
“These include emergency access, inner corridors, student function space and residence halls. After we clear these areas, we will shift our focus to all secondary priority areas.”
RMU Sentry Media reached out to the facilities management team to learn more about how they plan for keeping up with the falling flakes. The department said in a response that they encourage all students and visitors to the university to keep alert to the changing weather conditions and use an abundance of caution.
“We ask all students and commuters to stay properly informed and up-to-date on the current weather conditions by watching local news broadcasts,” Facilities Management said in an email to RMU Sentry Media. “Should the need arise that you must travel in these conditions, always use caution.”
Heavy snow and layers of ice means extra work for the team, but the department says extra staff is lined up and ready to go.
“We will have extra staff assisting in keeping the grounds safe for those on campus.”
As forecasts change with snow and freezing rain moving through the area, RMU’s Facilities Management team says their goal is to keep roads and sidewalks clear and safe.
“The top priority of Facilities Management is to maintain all road and sidewalk conditions on campus. Facilities Management is prepared and ready to provide immediate action to ensure the safety of all students, faculty, staff and visitors.”
