MOON TOWNSHIP — Eligible members of the Robert Morris University community could soon receive COVID-19 vaccinations, but the campus does not yet have its own supply of vaccines.

“We continue to monitor and pursue opportunities, but RMU does not have its own supply of vaccine, and we do not know if and when such supply may become available in the future. In addition, the timeline for when non-clinical staff and faculty in higher education settings will be eligible to receive the vaccine remains unclear, and we know there are still more questions than answers,” said the Robert Morris University Human Resources department in an email sent to university employees.

Currently, the state of Pennsylvania is in the “1a” phase of vaccine distribution. Several groups in the medical field are eligible for the 1a phase, including clinical or health care workers, direct support professionals, pharmacists and clinical personnel who work in school settings.

In the email sent to employees, the university also said that all members of clinical personnel and direct support professionals have been contacted and granted an opportunity to register for a dose of the vaccine.

Furthermore, individuals over the age of 65 and immunocompromised individuals, aged 16-64 are also eligible for vaccination in Allegheny County. Immunocompromised individuals can be considered anyone who is pregnant or anyone with a BMI over 30. Anyone who has been diagnosed with cancer, COPD, Type 2 diabetes or Down’s Syndrome is also eligible for a vaccine in Allegheny County.

The Allegheny County Health Department is not currently offering vaccines directly to RMU, however, any person who is eligible for the 1a phase can attempt to secure an appointment.

“We will continue to update you as appropriate, and are grateful for your continued adherence to campus and community guidelines that help to decrease the likelihood of viral spread, including wearing your masks, maintaining appropriate social distancing, and avoiding large gatherings,” said the Human Resources Department.

“Please keep trying, and checking pharmacy/health care organization websites on a regular basis. We know how frustrating this is, given the limited supply of vaccination contrasted with the significant number of eligible recipients,” said the Human Resource Department.
