The Colonials are set to take on the University of Alabama on Friday, March 21, a year after going 10-22.
During the Selection Sunday show, the bracket was revealed, and the Colonials learned their fate as they were selected as the No. 15 seed. The Colonials will be facing the Second-Seeded Crimson Tide.
Recently, the Colonials (26-8) were awarded an automatic NCAA Tournament bid after winning the Horizon League Tournament. The Crimson Tide (25-8) lost to Florida, 104-82, in the SEC Tournament semi-final.
RMU will be making its first tournament appearance since 2015, when they beat North Florida in a First Four Matchup and eventually lost to Duke. Robert Morris made the tournament in 2020 but never made an appearance due to COVID-19.
This game holds special meaning for two players, each for unique reasons. Amarion Dickerson, a forward from Cleveland, Ohio, will be making his March Madness debut in front of his hometown crowd, while Kam Woods, hailing from Bessemer, Ala. will face off against his home state’s school, the Crimson Tide.
“Playing in front of the hometown at March Madness, you know growing up as a kid, your dream always as a basketball player is to get to this stage,” said Dickerson. “So being able to get to this stage and playing in front of the hometown crowd is a blessing.”
With Cleveland being just 2 hours up the turnpike, this is familiar territory for the Colonials and their fanbase.
“They know I love them, I try to show that,” said Alvaro Folgueiras, sophomore forward for RMU. “This is one more chance to show some love to them by playing hard and tough. That’s how we do it.”
Tipoff will be at 12:40 p.m. on Friday, March 21, at Rocket Arena.
