An active shooter was confirmed at Florida State University in Tallahassee, leaving at least six injured in the early afternoon on Thursday, April 17. Injured and victim counts are subject to change, as law enforcement continues to actively search the scene to determine the final number.
A suspect is in custody, as reported by ABC News, but the search for possible additional shooters is still ongoing. Police responded to the scene near the Student Union and advised FSU students to shelter in place via an FSU Alert.
Injured students are being cared for at Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare, which has not specified how many are injured or the extent.
Republican State Representative Neal Dunn made a statement regarding the situation, “It’s too early to understand the extent of the violence, but early reports are very disturbing. Shelter in place. Stay Safe. Thank you to our brave first responders for responding to the situation.”
Florida Department of Law Enforcement is still actively engaged in the incident and is continuing to investigate.
No names or causes of the shooter have been released. Florida State University is still under an SOS lockdown at this time.
