After six years at Robert Morris University, Laura Green Schoenfeld, director of special programs and student community standards, is saying her goodbyes.
Sept. 2 will be Schoenfeld’s very last day working at RMU. She will be moving to Arizona with her family due to her husband, Bob Schoenfeld, getting a job there.
“He took an opportunity to advance his career,” explained Schoenfeld.
Schoenfeld is originally from Arizona. Therefore, her family is very excited about her moving back to Arizona. She explains that she will be closer to her parents and siblings. She also added that there is no job lined up for her in Arizona, but she would like to work in a university again, such as Arizona State University or one of the community colleges in the area.
No official announcement has been made yet.
“For the most part, I have been in conversation with students and informing them about my departure,” said Schoenfeld.
She currently manages the student conduct system, works with Panhellenic (an organization that oversees the Delta Zeta, Zeta Phi Beta and Zeta Tau Alpha sororities) and the sophomore class officers and tries to always give a helping hand to every program that Student Life undertakes.
The Student Life office is hoping to have a farewell get-together among colleagues before Schoenfeld leaves.
“We’ll see if there is any opportunity for students to wish her well,” said Maureen Keefer, assistant dean of student life.
Nonetheless, Schoenfeld states that she has mixed emotions about leaving. She also added that she loves working at RMU and has gained a lot of experience working here.
“My colleagues have been saying some nice things, such as ‘we’re going to miss you’,” said Schoenfeld. “It also makes it harder to leave.”
“I’m heartbroken,” said Nancy Thomas, the student life coordinator. “She’s the most compassionate, understanding, thoughtful and caring person I have ever met. I’m going to miss her a lot. I’m going to miss her and Jack, [her son]. She’s a great mom, and I’m going to miss Jack growing up.”
Director of Student Activities and Leadership Development John Locke praises Schoenfeld. He worked with Schoenfeld for the six years that she has been on board with RMU and describes her as an amazing professional and a great person to collaborate with.
“She has made a great impact on the university,” said Locke, regarding her participation with Greek life. “She’s impacted a lot of people’s life through student conduct. She brings the best out of the students she works with.”
Before leaving, Schoenfeld would like to send her thank you to all faculty, staff and students. She added that she had enjoyed the past six years she has spent at RMU.
Student Life is now in the process of conducting interviews to find someone to fill Schoenfeld’s position.
“We’re hoping to have someone on board as close to the semester as possible,” said Keefer.
