Names of officers injured in synagogue shooting released

Pittsburgh FBI, S.W.A.T., police, paramedics, and Pennsylvania State Troopers were all at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh during a mass shooting October 27, 2018.

PITTSBURGH – The names of the six officers injured during the mass shooting at the Tree of Life Synagogue has been released.

Police say that 46-year-old Robert Bowers entered the place of worship Saturday morning where he opened fire killing 11 people and injuring another six people, including four police officers.

Later reports from officials indicated that two other officers were injured during the incident.

  • Timothy Matson suffered multiple gunshot wounds and still remains in the hospital.
  • Daniel Mead suffered a gunshot wound to the hand and still remains in the hospital.
  • Anthony Burke suffered a gunshot wound to the hand and still remains in the hospital.
  • Michael Smidga suffered a graze wound and/or shrapnel would to the head and was released from the hospital.
  • John Persin suffered hearing concerns/issues and was released from the hospital.
  • Tyler Pashel suffered a knee injury and was released from the hospital.

“These officers, and countless others, acted heroically in running towards gunfire to save citizens and their fellow officers, as did many others from Pittsburgh Public Safety and neighboring law enforcement agencies,” said the city in a statement to the media.
