On late Wednesday afternoon, a teenage boy was shot in downtown Pittsburgh. The victim was transported to the hospital, and the perpetrator has been detained by Pittsburgh police.
Shots were fired shortly after 4 p.m. on the 400 block of Smithfield St. A nearby police officer heard the gunshots and responded to the area.
The victim sustained a gunshot wound to the abdomen and was transported to a nearby hospital in critical, but stable condition. The officer that was nearby saw the assailant drop his weapon and then detained the perpetrator who is believed to be around 21.
Cara Cruze, a police spokesperson has stated, “There are no charges at this time, and the investigation is ongoing.”
According to a source who spoke to CBS off-camera, the two were “standing near the bus stop, and then his friend was shot in the stomach after some kind of disagreement with a stranger.”
At this time, there have been no further updates on the stability of the victim nor the identity of the assailant.
