People living in the Pittsburgh neighborhood of Brighton Heights have been terrorized as of late by flocks of wild turkeys. They have contacted Pittsburgh News WPXI for help.
The terrible turkeys have been taunting pedestrians, mail carriers, and drivers for months now. “They come out from around cars like gangsters, and there’s three or four of them, and you don’t know what to think, you don’t want to not harm them, but you don’t want to get harmed,” said Mark Anthony Livingston.
Mark and his wife Lorraine called Channel 11 after Mark was chased nearly a quarter of a mile by three turkeys. A doorbell camera captured the turkeys chasing him to his doorstep on Woods Run Avenue in Brighton Heights.
“We have a lot of bikers on this road, they could attack the bikers on their bikes. We have kids waiting for the bus and it puts them in danger, we don’t know what kind of diseases they’re carrying,” Lorraine Livingston said.
Craig Romain, who is a neighbor, stated, “They don’t move, they don’t want to move, you drive around them, beep at them, honk, they come after you, your car.”
WPXI captured video of the wild turkeys surrounding cars and pecking at them as the drivers honked. Residents say traffic is often backed up due to the turkeys’ refusal to move and drivers not wanting to hit them.
The Livingstons said they contacted the Pennsylvania Game Commission and Pittsburgh Police but haven’t yet received assistance. Residents plan to discuss the turkeys’ reign of terror at the next community meeting.
