The NFL draft is right around the corner, and teams are still figuring out what players they want to pick to impact their franchise for the foreseeable future. Each team has holes to fill on its roster, and an important position that needs to be filled on some teams is the quarterback position.
There are some notable quarterbacks in this year’s draft, including Cam Ward, Shedeur Sanders, Jaxon Dart, and Jalen Milroe.
This time of the year is commonly called “smokescreen season.” This is when organizations will tend to talk down about players to lower their stock in the draft to throw other teams off when drafting.
Not everything being said about these prospects is true, but the two quarterbacks who are projected to go in the first round are Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders.
It seems to be a lock for Cam Ward to go 1st overall to the Tennessee Titans, according to the majority of mock drafts, but there is still uncertainty about where Sanders will end up.
Following the Titans are the Cleveland Browns and New York Giants. Each team has uncertainty at the quarterback position, but has the opportunity to draft one of the best talents in the draft in Travis Hunter and Abdul Carter. It would be hard for either one of these teams to pass on either player.
The 6th pick in the draft is the Las Vegas Raiders, who could take Sanders, but it is not likely since the joining of quarterback Geno Smith. Smith also got his contract extended. The Raiders have other holes to fill on their team, so drafting Sanders isn’t likely.
Moving forward to the 9th pick is the New Orleans Saints. With recent reports of quarterback Derek Carr dealing with a shoulder injury that could limit him this season, drafting a quarterback is not a bad option. It is very possible that the Saints draft Sanders.
The Pittsburgh Steelers will be picking 21st in this draft. The Steelers are still awaiting the decision of Aaron Rodgers on whether he will join the Steelers this season.
Quarterback is a top priority for the Steelers, and drafting Sanders is a possibility, but with their pick late in the draft, it could be hard for them to do.
Multiple landing spots are possible for Sanders in this year’s draft, and we will find out which team will draft him on April 24th.
