Light Up night illuminates many Pittsburgh residents’ holiday cheer
Light Up night in downtown Pittsburgh was the perfect way to begin the holiday season. Although most stores have already started putting up Christmas decorations before Halloween, Light Up night officially began holiday cheer in the Pittsburgh area. This was my first time going, although I have lived in the Pittsburgh area my entire life. There was plenty of live music everywhere and then, later, fireworks lit up the sky. Around 6 p.m. American Cancer Society supporters placed glow-sticks with the names of passed loved ones along the ice skating rink downtown. Soon after, the tree at PPG place was lit up – beginning the Light Up night festivities. While walking around, I noticed ice sculptures of candy canes and other festive items. That street seemed to be a popular area for parents and children. Towards the end of the night, there were fireworks and a laser light show playing in time with many holiday songs. After the fireworks, it seemed like a mad dash to get on the Trolley – where you are bound to meet an interesting person. Overall, this was a great experience and a fun way to do some sightseeing in Pittsburgh.
