Fresh off a 25 point performance in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, Horizon League Defensive Player of the Year Amarion Dickerson has announced he’s entered the transfer portal Monday evening.
In a post made on Instagram and X, Dickerson said, “Thank you, Robert Morris University, for an unforgettable journey! I’m beyond grateful for Coach Toole, the entire athletic department, and the amazing Bobby Mo fans for their support. Together, we made history, and every moment will stay with me forever.”
Dickerson had a record breaking year for the Colonials, one he stamped off with another elite performance, this time on the biggest stage in his hometown of Cleveland. Besides leading the team in points, the junior also had nine rebounds, three steals, and two blocks against the the Crimson Tide Friday afternoon.
The Cleveland native was a highlight player all season long for the Colonials, mainly because of his defensive efforts. Dickerson broke the single-game record for blocks twice this season, with seven against Stonehill and eight against Detroit Mercy. Naturally, he now also holds the record for blocks in a season for RMU with 82.
The departure of Dickerson kicks off an offseason of change for the Colonials. With the addition of the transfer portal, many mid-major schools like RMU will often undergo periods of transition, making the Colonials’ chances of defending their Horizon League championship all the more harder.
