For the second time in three weeks, senior goalie Toba Bolaji earned Male Student-Athlete of the Week honors. The Colonials earned their first victory of the season last weekend with a 1-0 decision over Wright State.
“The win was great. It felt so nice to be on the right side of things this weekend,” Bolaji said. “It was a hard fought game.”
Bolaji was a huge reason why RMU held on late even when Wright State turned it up in the second half. Overall, Bolaji made ten saves, seven in the second half, and tallied his second shutout of the season.
“It was a lot of pressure. It felt like the teams were just going back and forth. They had some great chances,” Bolaji said.
With his thirteenth career shutout in the books, Bolaji also earned Northeast (NEC) Co-Player of the Week.
“That’s a great honor it’s nice to get recognized once in a while,” Bolaji said.
The Colonials still have four non-conference games before they start their NEC slate Sept. 23 at Buffalo and Bolaji is confident in the team’s direction.
“I felt we had a bigger sense of unity than we have before,” Bolaji said. “I think if we keep that up we’ll be fine before conference.”
Bolaji and company are back on the pitch this Saturday where they’ll welcome Hartwick to the Northeast Athletic Complex for a 2 pm start.
