Striano’s late goal breaks Colonials hearts; Bucknell defeats Robert Morris

MOON TOWNSHIP— Following a 21-12 loss to no. 3 Duke, Robert Morris (0-2) played at Joe Walton Stadium for the first time in 2022 playing the Patriot League’s Bucknell Bison (2-0).
Much like last weekend, the Colonials could not get things going early as Bucknell scored the game’s first three goals.
Eight seconds after Bucknell’s third, freshman midfielder Bo Columbus won the faceoff and ran straight to the goal, firing one past Max Nolan to put the Colonials on the board.
Bucknell’s freshman midfielder Cam Doolan scored a hat trick in the first quarter, leading Bucknell to a three-goal advantage after one quarter of play.
The Colonials returned within one with two quick goals to begin the second quarter, but another three Bison goals put a stop to a much-needed Colonial run. Goals by James Leary and Blake Lori concluded the half, cutting the deficit to three once again.
Coming out of the break, the Colonials came off rolling. Two goals by Taggart Clark in the third quarter tied things up at 11 with four minutes left.
Just before the buzzer sounded, Dutch Furlong scored his second goal of the game with eight seconds left in the quarter.
It didn’t matter much; however, Taggart Clark scored his fifth of the game just over a minute into the 4th quarter to make it a one-goal game once again. The Bison had a man-up opportunity, but the Colonials had a pivotal kill to keep the scoreline the same.
It took 10 minutes between Clark’s goal and the next one. Bucknell sophomore Danny Striano scored to make it a two-goal game with three minutes to go to put the dagger in the Colonials’ hearts.
Taggart Clark was the only Colonial to score multiple goals, with five. Other than him, seven others touched the scoresheet, including Jake Boudreau who also had five assists.
Buckell’s Connor Davis had four goals and an assist on 11 shots.
RMU never led, but came as close as tying the game late in the third.
Today’s loss was a heartbreaker for head coach Craig McDonald as the team will travel to Stony Brook, N.Y. to face the Seawolves at noon next Saturday.
