Celebrity Hockey Faceoff Will Take Center Stage for Second Consecutive Year on Sunday

Are you ready for some hockey? RMU Athletics is hosting the second annual Celebrity Hockey Faceoff is scheduled for Jan. 15 at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex. It will feature many former Robert Morris hockey players, former Penguins players and celebrities from Pittsburgh and nationally.
The RMU alumni team won last year’s event by a final score of 12-11.
The game is a charity event to help fund the return of the men’s and women’s hockey programs.
Last year the event raised over $65,000 for the Hockey is the Goal foundation. This fundraiser helps raise money for both teams.
Many players, including former Pittsburgh Penguin and hockey analyst Colby Armstrong, are returning to play in the game.
Armstrong was drafted by the Penguins in 2001 and was traded to the Atlanta Thrashers in 2008.
Along with Armstrong, Penguins legend the “Ole Two Niner,” Phil Bourque, will participate in the event. Bourque is a two-time Stanley Cup Champion with the Penguins and a color commentator for the Penguins Radio Network.
Penguins play-by-play announcer Steve Mears will be at the event along with color commentator Bob Errrey. Errey was a two-time Stanley Cup Champion with the Penguins in 1991-92.
Many members of the Pittsburgh sports media will participate as well. The “Super Genius” Mark Madden will be a first-time participant at the event. Madden is a Trib Live Columnist and Radio Show Host on 105.9 the X.
On The Bench hosts Olly and Jacob will once again be at the game. Olly and Jacob host a hockey podcast.
Other media members will be there, including 93.7 the Fan’s Chris Mack and WTAE’s sports reporter and news anchor Andrew Stockey. Both will be making their second appearance at the game.
Many former RMU hockey players will appear, including Olympic medalist Brianne McLaughlin. McLaughlin played for Robert Morris from 2006-2009. Along with playing in the 2010 and 2014 Olympics, McLaughlin played for the Buffalo Beauts in the NWHL from 2015-2017.
Tickets for the event are still available on Ticketmaster as the game will start at 4:30 pm.
