MOON TOWNSHIP– The Robert Morris Colonials (7-8, 5-1 MAC) welcomed the Eastern Michigan Eagles (1-12, 0-5 MAC) for a conference matchup in which Robert Morris routed Eastern by a score of 19-7.
There were a lot firsts for the Colonials in terms of first career goals for Robert Morris as there were a trio of Colonials that scored their first career goals. Lizzie Paterno, Amanda Dolis and Eliana Lamange had their first career collegiate tallies Wednesday afternoon.
“It felt so good to just turn around and see all my teammates running towards me,” Paterno said. “It just felt so good to finally score my first goal.”
The Colonials played a complete game today as they controlled pretty much every aspect of the game. However, they did fall a little flat in the third quarter as the Eastern Michigan’s Tracy Grollman scored three straight, but the Colonials tightened it up and won the game with ease.
Coach Silva emphasized how the team played from start to finish.
“We played a complete game and I felt good about how we played today,” Silva said. “We tried a new way of play, but we just didn’t perform it well. We’ll go back to the drawing board.”
The defensive effort today was incredible by the Colonials. They forced so many turnovers and picked up the ground balls when necessary.
“We were really tight on defense today which was great. We did fall a little bit in the third after number one on their team scored three in a row but we fixed it and played a great rest of the game,” Coach Silva said.
Jamie Keller played a great game today as she only allowed six goal in the game before being subbed out to get Riker some playing time.
“Overall we played a solid game.” Keller said. “I felt that we communicated well and everything just went our way. In all honesty, it is hard to see the ball and I have to keep my head on a swivel at all time. It is hard to see the ball but the defense played well and I was able to make a lot of easy saves.”
It was well played game from the Colonials as they controlled the match from the start to the final buzzer. They will travel to Akron, Ohio to take on Akron in their second to final MAC conference game.
