MOON TOWNSHIP – Robert Morris Men’s Soccer (4-3-2, 2-0-1 Horizon) was back at the North Athletic Complex after a midweek road trip. Today, on a gloomy Saturday afternoon, the Colonials took on Horizon League opponent, Milwaukee (3-2-3, 0-2-1 Horizon).
This game was a hard fought contest with both teams going for it but in the end RMU would come away with the 1-0 win at home.
The only goal of this match would come in the 32 minute of the game, scored by graduate student Chase Gilley. That goal would be Gilley’s third on the season. His Brother, Logan Gilley, would assist him on the goal.
The match started very physically, with a yellow card issued to Gabe Norris inside the first five minutes. Throughout the match there would be a total of three yellow cards all issued to the Colonials. The Physicality didn’t end there as both teams contributed to a total of 30 fouls with Milwaukee getting 16 and Robert Morris getting 14.
With RMU getting the scoring underway the chance came off of a counter attack. Goalkeeper Josh Lane came up with a big foot save and then it was off to the races and the counter attack would end with the ball in the back of the net.
In the first half the reason the Colonials kept the lead was because Josh lane came up big with a total of three saves in the first half.
RMU would total 12 shots in the first half and the only one on goal would be the goal. Milwaukee only had four shots on goal with three of them being on target.
Coming out of halftime the job was not over for the Colonials as they would look to add another one to the scoresheet. RMU would get the first chance of the second half with the Gilley brothers connecting on the first opportunity. The chance would go just wide keeping the score at 1-0 RMU.
Milwaukee would end up getting back on the scoresheet but the chance was ruled offside and the Colonials would remain a goal up.
In the second half RMU would struggle with possession not getting much going. Milwaukee would get most of the chances early in the second half. Neither team would get a real scoring chance after the Milwaukee offsides call.
The Colonial will be back in action this Tuesday at home. They will be facing off against Canisius in a non-conference game with kickoff set for 3p.m.
