NEVILLE TWP– The Robert Morris women’s hockey team looked to end their season with a win on Saturday afternoon over Syracuse Orange. The prior night, the Orange defeated the Colonials by a score of 3-1, and the same story was written again Saturday afternoon as the Colonials (13-7-1, 11-7-1 CHA) fell to the Orange (10-8-1, 8-6-1) by a score of 4-1.

The game started very similar to game one with both teams’ defenses not allowing many high-quality chances. In similar fashion to Friday, the Colonials scored first when Mackenzie Krasowski stole the puck from an Orange defender and Marah Wagner went full speed to the front of the net. Krasowski hit her with a pass and Wagner went forehand to backhand to get Small out of position and backhanded the puck top-shelf.

The Colonials looked to add to their lead, but after a Small save, the puck went high into the air where Anjelica Diffendal, the tallest Colonial, reached up and batted the puck down into the net. The goal was immediately waved off, reviewed, and confirmed to be no-goal.

In the second period, the Orange opened the floodgates as they scored four goals. Their first came after the Orange rang one off the crossbar and Sarah Thompson gathered it and went five-hole on Arielle DeSmet.

Shortly after, the Orange found the back of the net again. This time the puck came off of Tatum White’s stick and into the net.

The third goal came after the Colonials turned the puck over in the defensive zone as Abby Moloughney blasted a slapshot off the post and in.

That would be the end of the afternoon for DeSmet. Molly Singewald was pressed into service for the third-straight contest, but her start wasn’t easy. After a Gillian Thompson penalty for slashing, the Orange put one by Singewald when Jessica DiGirolamo threw the puck on net and it found its way through Singewald’s pads.

In the third, RMU could only muster up eight shots on goal and Small sent all of them aside, adding to her total of 35 saves on the day. The Colonials’ next game will be in the CHA tournament, stay tuned to Colonial Sports Network for more updates regarding their matchup.
