Robert Morris (2-0-1) took on Mount St. Mary’s (0-0-2) at the North Athletic Complex on Thursday afternoon. This was the third game of a four-game homestand to open the season. But after 90 minutes of play, the game ended in a draw.

The Colonials had two golden opportunities to strike first in the first half, but the Mountaineers saved shots by Haleigh Finale and Renae Mohrbacher.

The pressure continued to be put on Mount St. Mary’s throughout the first half, as the Colonials outshot the Mountaineers 8-3, including a shot from Sheridan Reid that sailed just over the top of the net.

Head coach Chris Shaw talked postgame about the team’s performance.
“I thought we continued to try and do the right things,” Shaw said. “We still want to play our style and our brand of soccer, and I thought we did.”

Even though the Mountaineers attempted just three shots in the first half, they looked to take advantage of their limited opportunities.

Taylor Simmons had an open path to the goal at the 36-minute mark. However, her shot went wide left.

Maevyn Jones had her shot saved by RMU goalkeeper Isabella Bohlen just before halftime.

Despite this barrage, neither team could score in the first half.

Shaw spoke about the missed opportunities.

“We created a lot of chances today,” Shaw said. “But to only come away with one goal with some of the looks we had is a bit disappointing.”

Coming out of the locker room, the Colonials started the second half strong and looked more relaxed.

The scoreless tie was broken by Elisa Corvalan in the 50th minute of play, as she buried a goal in the left side of the net assisted by Sheridan Reid.

Corvalan had the opportunity to extend the lead in the 64th minute, but her shot went just above the crossbar and out of play.

Mount St. Mary’s would get on the board and even the match at one in the 70th minute of play. Madison Bee scored the lone goal for the Mountaineers.

A critical save by Isabella Bohlen in the 87th minute via a Mountaineers corner kick kept the game tied at one all, where it remained until the clock hit triple zeros.

The Colonials return to the North Athletic Complex to complete their four-game homestand on Sunday, Aug. 28 against the UMass Minutemen. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m.
