Two Robert Morris men’s lacrosse players were named as NEC weekly award winners following their dominant win over Mercyhurst.
The announcement made on Monday afternoon named graduate faceoff specialist Bo Columbus is the NEC’s Player of the Week and sophomore defender Owen Tapper is the Defensive Player of the Week.
Columbus faced his former team Mercyhurst Saturday and had a career performance, especially at the faceoff dot. He won 20 of 22 faceoffs with 14 ground balls, tying for the third-most in in a game in program. Columbus leads the NEC in faceoff wins (136) and a faceoff win percentage (62.1%).
“ Bo was very good,” Colonial head coach Craig MacDonald said following the win over Mercyhurst. “All three of [our faceoff specialists] went out there and did a really good job and got us possession, which is huge. We only lost three out of 29, so that’s pretty unheard of.”
As for Tapper, he also had a career day with seven ground balls and tied his career-high with four caused turnovers against the Lakers. He is tied for second in the NEC with 15 caused turnovers.
Additionally, Calum Brennan and Kean Moon were named NEC Prime Performers. Brennan scored five times Saturday against the Lakers, with three ground balls. Moon set new career-highs with four goals and five points.
The Colonials are an undefeated 3-0 in NEC so far this season and will play at LIU on Saturday, April 5 before returning home on April 12 against the Keydets of VMI.
