MOON TOWNSHIP– With a disappointing 2021 season coming to a close, Robert Morris Vice President and Athletic Director Chris King announced on Thursday that head volleyball coach Dale Starr will not have his contract renewed or extended following the close of the season.

After 12 years at the helm of the Colonials, Starr had a 169-191 (.469) record and captured a 2015 NEC Tournament championship, alongside the Colonials being named 2019 NEC Regular Season Champions and the 2019 NEC Coach of the Year after a 15-1 conference season.

However, the transition to the Horizon League has not been nice to the Colonials, as Robert Morris has gone just 6-24 (.200) in conference play since joining the new conference in 2020.

This season, the Colonials are currently 9-17 overall, and 2-12 in Horizon League play, not winning a set in five straight matches, dating from October 14 against Milwaukee to October 23 against Oakland. The Colonials also haven’t won a match since Oct 8 against Youngstown State.

Associate head coach Danny Doherty will serve as interim head coach for the remainder of the year, and a national search in hopes of finding the next head coach for RMU volleyball will commence immediately.
