SAN DIEGO– It has been a chaotic past few weeks for former Robert Morris men’s hockey goaltender Francis Marotte, who signed a contract earlier today with the Anaheim Ducks’ American Hockey League affiliate, the San Diego Gulls.

Marotte’s one-year, two-way contract places him alongside the Gulls’ other netminders, Jeff Glass, Olle Eriksson Ek and Lukas Dostal.

Back on Sept. 21, Marotte was named to the Seattle Kraken’s inaugural training camp roster, however, nine days later, he was released from his tryout agreement with the team. Marotte did not appear in any of the Kraken’s preseason games before being waived.

The Longueuil, Quebec native returns to the AHL after appearing in two games for the Bridgeport Sound Tigers last season. He made his AHL debut on Mar. 4 where he made seven saves on eight shots in 19:50 of play.

Along with his time in the AHL last season, the 26-year-old played in 12 games for the ECHL’s Allen Americans where he posted an 8-3-1 record, along with 2.54 goals-against average and a .917 save percentage.

Before his professional playing days, Marotte made a name for himself at the collegiate level where he played for Robert Morris for three seasons. During his tenure with the Colonials, he posted 50 wins where he ranks first all-time. The 6’1″ netminder also is tied for first in program history with eight shutouts.

Following his time at RMU, Marotte played in 34 games with Clarkson University of the ECAC. There, he placed a 23-8-3 record with a 1.78 goals-against average.

While his time at Robert Morris may seem like a distant past, Marotte continues his trek through professional hockey with his most recent stop in sunny San Diego.
