#FormerColonialWatch Chelsea Walkland to join Team USA at IIHF U-18 Women’s World Championship
May 28, 2022
Former Robert Morris University women’s hockey player and coach Chelsea Walkland, will join the United States coaching staff for the IIHF U-18 Women’s World Championship in Wisconsin.
Walkland is no stranger to working with Team USA as she has worked with the team before, serving as the New York State District Evaluator in March of 2012 and as a U16/U17 Player Development Camp Intern Coach in July of the same year. Walkland was also selected to be on the staff for last year’s U18 World Championship before being postponed to this June.
The 33-year-old has been the assistant coach for Colgate University’s women’s hockey team since 2019.
Walkland played for the Colonials from 2006 to 2010. She served as an assistant captain during her junior and senior seasons. A three-time CHA All-Academic Team honoree, she finished her career with 41 points (17G, 24A) in a program-record 140 games played. On Feb. 7, 2009, against Sacred Heart, Walkland tallied a goal and five assists in a 12-0 win over the Raiders. Her assist total in that contest still stands as the second-most in a single game in program history.
Walkland returned to Robert Morris as the hockey operations manager from 2010 to 2011 before beginning her coaching career at RIT the following year.
In 2014, Walkland was hired to be the assistant coach for the Colonials and held that position for five years before joining the Raiders.
The tournament will take place in Middleton and Madison, Wisconsin, and begin on June 6.
