Independence, MO– On Tuesday afternoon, the ECHL’s Kansas City Mavericks announced that they had signed former men’s hockey goaltender Justin Kapelmaster for the upcoming season via their website.

Now he's an #OKG.

Kapelmaster, who transferred over from Ferris State University for his senior season, had a season for the ages. He claimed the RMU program record for save percentage (.930), goals-against average (2.48), and saves per game (30.5).

While he was at Ferris State, the Coral Springs, Florida native accrued a .916 save percentage and a 2.84 goals-against average over 48 appearances, 45 of those appearances being starts.

According to the Mavericks’ website, “He is the epitome of a gamer,” Mavericks Head Coach and Director of Hockey Ops Tad O’Had said. “He is an intense competitor with great athleticism and has a true knack to shine in pressure situations. He is coming off a stellar senior season at RMU and we are looking forward to a smooth transition to the pro game. We strongly feel he has a bright future.”

After an excellent season manning the crease, Kapelmaster will join Luke Lynch, Jake Coleman, and Daniel Mantenuto as members of last season’s graduating class to recently sign pro deals.
