Back in October, the Robert Morris women’s basketball team were picked to finish last in the Horizon League on the preseason poll. The Colonials defied the odds and finished fourth in the Horizon League, its highest finish since joining the league in 2020.
All Under Amour schools have the “Doubt Us” shirts on the sidelines, but for Robert Morris it has never been more true.
The Colonials ended the season by winning nine out of their last 12 games to secure the fourth seed in the Horizon League. They started off the season by losing six of their nine games. The Colonials had a major turnaround.
“I think it was at [Youngstown State] that started our little streak,” McCabe said. “That’s when they bought in and started to see what we could do.”
The team had players step up over the course of the season like Noa Givon, Mya Murray, Isys Grady, Jada Lee, and Katelyn Chomko. All of these players have played an integral role for the Colonials this season in their own ways.
Givon has been a bright spot for this Colonial team as she is the team’s leader in points. She led the offensive charge against the Norse, scoring a season-high 23 points. Givon said post-game that she was happy she helped the team win, despite her phenomenal game individually.
“[Noa] cares nothing about that, and that’s what I love most about her,” McCabe said. “She just wants to help the team win, period.”
The players showed a lot of grit and heart over the course of the season and it showed as they made their way to Indianapolis. The Colonials fought through trials and tribulations the last two years to get to this point.
“When we started the year 1-7, there were two adjustments, toughness and play harder.” McCabe “Now we are 9-4 in the last 13 games, We have some unfinished business to take care of.”
The Colonials have had a storybook season as they defied odds, after having an unfortunate 2023-24 year. The Colonials look keep their season alive in the Horizon League Semifinals for the first time in Indianapolis. Robert Morris will be taking on the top-seeded Green Bay Phoenix, at 12 p.m. on Monday, March 10.
